Compliance

A Note about Licensing and Compliance

Becoming an HDCP Licensee does not mean that our products are automatically authorized by DCP LLC.

The HDCP License Agreement only provides a license to manufacture and sell products that comply with the terms of the Agreement, including the Compliance and Robustness Rules. Products that fail to comply with these provisions are non-compliant and their manufacture and sale is not authorized by DCP LLC.

Further, compliance testing does not guarantee that a product is fully compliant with the HDCP License Agreement.

Even if a product passes compliance testing, the product may still not be fully compliant with the HDCP License Agreement, as compliance testing does not determine whether a given product meets any Compliance & Robustness Rules for the product.

As the licensor of HDCP, DCP takes enforcement efforts seriously. DCP constantly monitors the market for unauthorized devices and devices that illegally circumvent HDCP, and when those devices are found, acts expeditiously to remove them from the marketplace. To date, over 4,000 discrete listings for devices have been removed from numerous websites. Additionally, lawsuits have been filed against parties who have persisted in selling unauthorized devices and/or illegal circumvention devices.

HDCP Testing now available

Why should you test?

The Compliance test is intended as an aid to the correct implementation of the Compliance Rules for hardware and software implementations of the HDCP Specification in a Licensed Product. The DCP LLC strongly recommends that you complete this testing for each hardware model or software version of a Licensed Product before releasing any product and at a sufficiently early date in design, as well as during production, to avoid product compliance redesign delays. The testing does not address all requirements necessary to create a product that is Compliant. Failure to perform the tests and analysis necessary to comply fully with the HDCP Specification, Compliance Rules or Robustness Rules could result in a breach of the HDCP License Agreement and appropriate legal action of Licensor and Eligible Content Participants.
